Hi All,
Just a quick look ahead to our next issue where we will be going Pedals mad!
Following on from Murdock’s article in Issue 10, we will be looking at the effect of the big music store closures a little deeper, in particular getting hold of effect pedals. I, for one, am still reeling from the closure of PMT in Newcastle and I know I’m not alone. Having the opportunity to test out pedals in a store is becoming a vanishing luxury. So we’ve decided to try to take a little pain out of the problem.
Yes, we are blessed with having companies such as Paul Flattley Pedal Boutique and NUX to sample great quality gear but, with the greatest respect towards Paul and other high end markets, we need to consider those who are just starting out and cannot afford the pedals that the pro’s use. So here’s a plan!
Danny, Lee and Murdock with be constructing a pedal board of various pedals that we’ve recommended in the past, plus a few new ones as an ‘NE Guitars Board’ special. All three of these lads are accomplished guitarists and will give our ‘seasoned’ players a look at top quality effects especially recommended by us.
While I will be trawling the bargain basement for the cheapies, basically to ask if they are any good or not. I’ve already managed to get hold of half a dozen examples ranging from a tenner to forty quid with mixed results. One or two, surprised the hell out of me to be honest, while others were badly made rubbish and I’ll say now, price wasn’t the determining factor here. All the details from the lads and from myself will be published in Issue 11.
Also do not forget that our regular girl, Michelle Taylor is also giving some great advice on creating pedal boards from her vast experience in her regular pages. This particular column has been very valuable to myself recently, she really knows her stuff!
In the meantime, why not send in your thoughts and experiences of your own gear and the results of the dwindling high street market. We would love to share your thoughts and comments in the next issue.
